Friends is an American television sitcom, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which originally aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. The show also has an ensemble cast, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. Friends revolves around six friends living in Manhattan. All ten seasons of Friends ranked within the top ten of the final television season ratings; ultimately reaching the No. 1 spot with its eighth season. 1. When Matt LeBlanc auditioned for the role he only had 11 dollars

When he got his first paycheck, he bought himself a hot dinner. Courteney Cox bought herself a new car.

2.  When they first wrote the show, Joey and Monica were planned to be love interests. 

3. It took each episode around five hours to film.

4. The original name for the show was "Insomnia Cafe"… It was renamed "Friends Like Us", then "Six of One", "Across the Hall" and then finally writers settled on "Friends"

5. "The One Where No One's Ready" is filmed entirely in Monica's apartment, because the show didn't have a budget big enough for any guests stars or additional sets.

6. By season 10 (the final season), all six actors were getting $1 million per episode.

7. You know how Joey plays Dr Drake Remoray in Days Of Our Lives? Well, in real life, Jennifer Aniston's dad (John Aniston), played Victor Kiriakis on the REAL Days Of Our Lives.

8. "The One After Vegas" was dedicated to Courtney Cox and David Arquette's marriage - in the credits, every cast member has the surname Arquette added to the end of their real names.

9. You know when Phoebe is pregnant with her brother's triplets? This storyline was written in because Lisa Kudrow was pregnant in real life.

12. Hank Azaria, who guest stars as Phoebe's boyfriend David (the scientist), auditioned for the role of Joey.

13. Initially, producers wanted Courtney Cox to play Rachel, but she wanted to play Monica because the character was so strong. We're not sure if she meant physically or mentally… Maybe both.

14. June Gable plays Joey's agent Estelle… Did you know she also plays a nurse in the episode where Carol gives birth to Ben.

15. While Chandler and Monica were having trouble conceiving. In real life, so were Courtney Cox and David Arquette.

16. Jon Favreau and Jon Cryer both tried out for the role of Chandler. Later on, Jon Favreau guest starred as Monica's boyfriend Pete Beckett (the millionaire).

17. Joey wasn't originally written as a dumb character. It was a suggestion by Matt LeBlanc.

18. Giovanni Ribisi, who plays Phoebe's brother Frank Jr, also had a cameo in the earlier seasons - he plays a boy who accidentally throws a condom in Phoebe's guitar case when she's busking.

19. Marta Kauffman and David Crane, the Friends co-creators, also co-wrote the show's theme song "I'll Be There For You," by the Rembrandts.  This song became a #1 single on the American pop charts.
